Maldives, Thursday March 24 2011. Sponsored by World Wildlife Fund, the World’s largest public action for the environment, Earth Hour 2011 will involve hundreds of millions of people and international landmarks across the globe who will switch off the lights of homes and businesses for one hour at 8:30pm on Saturday, March 26 2011. By turning off non-essential lights and electric devices, Diva Maldives, in accordance with the safety standards of the resort, will support this international campaign and provide its guests with an engaging program for the evening.

“We are delighted to celebrate one of the most important causes worldwide with all our guests by turning off the lights this coming Saturday 26th and attend this renowned campaign to raise awareness about global warming” says Mr. Dominik Ruhl, the resort General Manager.

Mingling at the twilight with a special cocktail reception, the resort’s guests will experience a special “green” cocktail that will glow under the candle lights while looking at the sunset. A stunning dining event with a buffet on the beach will be especially prepared by Michelin star Chef Steve Van Remoortel.

A “Culinary Journey in the Dark”, with the resort lively band performing unplugged, will boast a surprising array of delicacies from all over the world. In this buffet, exclusively tailored for Earth Hour, Chef Steve will portray a glance of all the 7 restaurants of the resort at once, with an installation of different stalls representing Allegria, the Italian fine dining, Senses with its Indian Ocean specialties, Pure with a selection of Japanese treats along with a touch of Eastern and Western flavors from North and East, the two lavish buffet restaurants and Veli, the seafood bistro’.

While at The Nest, the resort kids’ club, the youngsters will be crafting special lanterns, the after-dinner program will see Diva’s guests gazing at the stars with a special moonlit cruise. Guided by our star-reader islanders, the traditional Dhoni will sail through the South Ari Atoll and head back just in time for a welcome cocktail at the resort disco club, Musik, where a DJ night glowing under the stars will await them.

Following the activities to support Earth Hour 2011, Diva Maldives will officially communicate the property’s sustainable commitment and results to all its guests and media partners to raise and consolidate environmental awareness.
